Ring in the New Year with a Green Gift to Nature!

As the holiday season comes to a close, it's time to bid farewell to our beloved Christmas tree. Instead of sending it to the landfill, why not give it a new life as beneficial mulch or compost?

The Sacramento County Department of Waste Management & Recycling in partnership with SMUD Corporation is hosting a FREE Mulching Event on Saturday, January 4, 2025, where residents can bring their holiday trees to be recycled for free!

Requirements:

  • Trees must have all tinsel, lights, decorations, nails, and stands removed
  • Flocked trees are not accepted for recycling

How it Works

  1. Simply remove the decorations and stand from your tree.
  2. Transport your tree to one of our designated drop-off locations (listed below).
  3. Our team will take care of the rest, turning your tree into nutrient-rich mulch or compost.
